Corynocarpus laevigatus is a handsome, upright-growing species with large, glossy, leathery, deep-green leaves. It grows naturally alongside waterways and can tolerate moderate coastal winds, frosts (once established), and dry conditions. In late summer, Corynocarpus laevigatus produces large, orange fruit that are enjoyed by wood pigeons. Corynocarpus laevigatus is evergreen and native to New Zealand.
